This district is named after the Lord Shiva and the name is been derived from ‘Tiru-Shiva-Perur’, previously this town was known as Trichur, this district is spread over an area of 3032 and encircled by the forest region of 103619 hector. The major river flows in this district are Periyar, Chalakudy, Karuvannur and Baratha Puzha. Thrissur is the district headquarters which holds great cultural values of the ancient in architecture and festivals.
